Apply for the Structural-Safety Young Members’ Scheme

Apply for the Structural-Safety Young Members’ Scheme
Graduate or Technician Members are being offered the chance to join the Structural-Safety committee on a two-year long programme and enjoy one-to-one mentoring with a senior member of Structural-Safety as part of a new scheme. Up to three graduates or technicians will get the chance to network with senior industry figures, organise CROSS Young Member Forum events and disseminate Structural-Safety’s data.

They will also have the chance to contribute to Structural-Safety publications, engage with CROSS sponsor organisations like HSE as well as clients, consultants, contractors and manufacturers. The scheme will be recognised as CPD by both the Institution and the IStructE.

Structural-Safety works with the industry on safety matters concerned with the design, construction and use of structures and has two entities; SCOSS (Standing Committee on Structural Safety), a committee established to maintain a continuing review of building and civil engineering matters affecting the safety of structures, and CROSS (Confidential Reporting on Structural Safety), a confidential safety reporting scheme established to capture and share lessons learned which might not otherwise have had formal recognition.

Role requirements
The role would require around five days per year out of the office. Applicants can be based anywhere in the UK as much of the work can be done remotely. The Structural-Safety quarterly meetings take place in London and the Young Members will be encouraged to attend these meetings in person, for which reasonable travel costs will be covered.

Employer benefits
Employers should note that the Scheme offers a chance to develop the technical knowledge and leadership potential of your young engineers and demonstrate their firm’s commitment to safety.

Interested?
If you would like to apply, complete the form on the IStructE website and submit your application with your CV, 500-word statement, and a reference from your line manager by 29 June.
