Description
This new one day training course, tutored by award-winning industry leaders, provides practical guidance on applying PAS 2080 to infrastructure projects, with the combined aims of reducing carbon, reducing cost and adding value.

Relevant to all infrastructure professionals across the supply chain, the course explains how to set and achieve meaningful carbon reduction targets for the benefit of the project, the client and the global environment.

Background

The infrastructure sector has been identified by the government as being responsible for at least 53% of carbon (greenhouse gas) emissions in the UK. This percentage is set to increase significantly as the energy grid is decarbonised.

Civil engineers have a vital role to play in reducing carbon emissions and preventing catastrophic climate change. PAS 2080, the world’s first specification for carbon management in infrastructure, requires practitioners to calculate a project’s whole life carbon baseline and set targets for carbon reduction.

What is PAS 2080?

Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2080 shows how carbon in infrastructure can be managed more rationally and strategically. It includes requirements for all leaders and practitioner-level individuals to show the right leadership and to establish effective governance systems for reducing whole life carbon through the use of a carbon management process.

Formats

Classroom

Training courses on set dates, in ICE Training venues across the country. Suitable for those looking to attend a training course and share knowledge and practical experiences with like-minded others in an interactive learning environment.

In-house

Bespoke training programmes. These are delivered by our tutors at a time, in a location and based on a curriculum completely tailored to your needs. Ideal for organisations that have several employees wishing to take training in the same subject area, and/or have organisation-specific ideas for learning and development.

Programme Overview
This training course starts at 09:00 and finishes at 17:00 with refreshment breaks mid-morning and afternoon, plus lunch.
All timings, except the start time, are approximate and may be adjusted to suit natural breaks in the lesson.

Tutors
Lewis Barlow is a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered Environmentalist, a Specialist in Land Condition, a Chartered Water & Environmental Manager and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. As a Technical Director at Sweco, Lewis has responsibility for carbon management and sustainability across the UK. A member of CIWEM’s Climate Change Network Steering Group and a registered tutor for Thomas Telford Training Ltd, Lewis is keen to underline the important contributions that infrastructure professionals can make to both climate change mitigation and adaptation.
 
Samantha Metaxas is a Carbon & Sustainability Consultant and Climate Change Coordinator at Sweco. She is a BREEAM Associate, a member of Scotland’s 2050 Climate Group, and a tutor for The University of Edinburgh’s MSc Carbon Management programme. She has helped achieve whole life infrastructure carbon reduction on a variety of internationally significant projects and is involved in the implementation of a sustainability strategy for the modernisation of Antarctic infrastructure for the British Antarctic Survey.
