"Construction Industry is one of the least digitised compared to other major industry sectors"
A report last year from McKinsey & Company showed the construction industry to be one of the least digitised when compared to other major industry sectors. Only agriculture was seen as being less digitised when compared against various business process criteria. Depending on your approach to risk this either offers great opportunity or a reason to carry on with business in much the same way as for the last decade.

Bucking the trend Civil Engineers have been some of the early adopters of technology forging new and innovative ways to help increase productivity, customer satisfaction and return on investment. Much of this activity has been driven by collaborations between the biggest client (government), big consultancies and entrepreneurial technology companies seeing the chance for disruption. Government client priorities’ have included – boosting productivity, improving collaboration, developing skills and of course delivering public funded projects on time and to budget. Digital adoption is seen by many as being key to turning the dials on these key objectives in the coming years. Developing skills that future proof organisations will be key to companies thriving in the digital construction marketplace and areas that McKinsey identified included; high definition surveying, 5D BIM, digital collaboration, big data and time resilient design.
