Description
This eLearning course is designed for candidates sitting the ICE Exam. The ICE exam is available to members who have been advised they need to demonstrate non-technical further learning before they can apply for ICE’s Chartered Professional Review and who do not have the required academic qualifications to do so.  
 
The eLearning covers the syllabus content for Module 4: Health, Safety, Welfare and Risk Assessment and ties closely with the exam curriculum.  The course looks at health, safety, welfare and risk issues from both a theoretical and applied perspective, with topics ranging from sources of risk to international standards.
 
There is a section for each of the syllabus topics and you can track your progress from the landing page of the eLearning.

In-house

Bespoke training programmes. These are delivered by our tutors at a time, in a location and based on a curriculum completely tailored to your needs. Ideal for organisations that have several employees wishing to take training in the same subject area, and/or have organisation-specific ideas for learning and development.

Programme Overview

Please be aware that the course content is almost identical to the Health, Safety, Welfare and Risk Assessment eLearning.


The eLearning modules cover the following topics:
  • Sources of hazards and risk
  • Qualitative and quantitative risk and safety assessment techniques including ALARP, AFARP, HAZOP, Fault Tree Analysis, Event Tree Analysis, and Failure Mode Event Analysis
  • Probabilistic Risk Assessment
  • Consequential risk
  • Project risk management
  • Lessons learnt from construction and operational failures
  • International standards for health, safety, and welfare
  • Defining and assessing safe systems of work including method statements
  • Responsibilities to project team and public of employers, clients, designers, contractors, and operators
Learning Objectives
This course ties in with the ICE Exam curriculum for Module 4: Health, Safety, Welfare and Risk Assessment. At the end of this course you will be able to do the following:
  • Understand the sources of hazards and risks
  • Understand and be able to assess a variety of qualitative and quantitative risk and safety assessment techniques
  • Understand and be able to discuss both probabilistic and consequential risk assessment
  • Understand what risks can arise on projects and the principles that can be used to manage them
  • Review real construction and operational failures to understand the lessons that can be learned from them
  • Recognise the organisations who produce international standards on Health, Safety and Welfare and identify the main international standards for high-risk activities
  • Define and assess safe systems of work which includes understanding the concept and application of Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Method Statements
  • Understand and be able to discuss the responsibilities of employers, clients, designers, contractors and operators to the project team and the public
On completion of the eLearning you should have a solid understanding of each of the syllabus topics, and combined with your own experience, be able to apply this to the ICE Exam case study questions to demonstrate a master’s level of critical discussion.
Who Should Enrol?
This training course is designed for candidates preparing to sit the ICE Exam. The ICE exam is available to members who are already registered with ICE and who have been advised they will need to  demonstrate non-technical further learning before they can apply for ICE’s Chartered Professional Review (CPR), or Chartered Professional Review Progressive (CPRP), and who do not have the required academic qualifications to do so. This ICE Exam targets:
  • Those with BEng (Hons) degrees accredited for CEng with further learning.
  • Those who graduate after June 2019 with a Washington Accord accredited Bachelor degree.
The exam allows candidates with BEng (Hons) degree or equivalent to demonstrate the CEng educational base without needing to undertake conventional further learning such as a master’s degree. It is not a standalone qualification, but a way for applicants to demonstrate their further learning in order to progress to Professional Review.
